This book tells the wonderful story of a vineyard that has existed since the Gallo-Roman era, was developed by the Benedictine monks and came into its own in the 19th century. Here in the district of Pouilly, on the banks of the Loire River the loveliest Sauvignon Blanc wines are born. The wine is also known as "Blanc Fumé", a name that resonates with any lover of great terroir wines. Where does the name come from ?
Because it "fumes" at harvest time when noble rot occurs ? Because of the inimitable taste of gunflint when one smells and tastes it ? Both these reasons are probably valid !
